Follow Our Food Journey

Some of you may know, we are taking a three month getaway to Europe/UK in search of inspiration. With Burbury Whole Foods coming into its 7th year, we think it’s time to jump back out into the world to challenge our palate and search for exciting new flavours and dishes.

London

Fist stop…London! We were lucky to have my cousin host us for our stay and also have a few close friends staying in London at the same time. So I can’t really say we spent a lot of time broadening our food horizon but rather catching up over a paint of Guinness in cozy pubs and bars…. We wouldn’t be Australian if we didn’t have a little party in London ;)

Amongst it all, here are some things we did discover…

Flavours of London

Fry up breakfast, Sunday roast and spicy Indian

Favourite ingredient

Pomegranate molases

Favourite Restaurant

Dishoom

Known for its decor and epic playlists. It’s a little slice of Bombay in London. The food and service was superb. Think tandoori flatbreads, black dalh and chicken Biryani topped with dried fruit.

Recommendations

Bikes

Spend your time taking advantage of the readily available rental bikes (we used Santander) and designated paths. We were blessed with blue days (I know this is unusual) so we were able to bike from place to place and although the tube is amazing, I can highly recommend seeing the city from two wheels.

Art Galleries

Galleries and museums are free so go crazy. If you’re into modern art I would recommend the Tate and Saachi. I won’t go into the art here because it would be another whole blog post. Let’s just say I am already feeling super inspired and have a few ideas bubbling in my head for my next collection.

Musicals

It wouldn’t be a trip to London without seeing a show. You can use TodayTix for cheap last minute tickets.

Sunday Roast

Get yourself to a local pub on Sunday and order yourself a Sunday roast. I can highly recommend the the Approach Tavern in Bethnal Green East London. Make sure you get there early because they sell out fast.

Music stores

Tom was on the hunt for a good travel guitar for our jounrey. A few musician friends pointed us towards Hank’s Guitar store on Denmark Street. If you're into guitars I believe this would be your wet dream (words spoken from a musician).

Markets

Borough Markets found in the centre of London is filled with fresh produce, cheese, olives and more. Make sure you grab the wild mushroom risotto.

For an epic day out on Sunday, enjoy some of East London’s markets;

Columbia Rd Flower market, Brick Lane vintage markets and Victoria park are all walking distance from each other.
